Completing his array of multiple practice areas, which include DWI, traffic, family law, divorce, and bankruptcy, Mr. Corletta is also an accomplished criminal defense attorney. He has had an active criminal defense practice for over 30 years, and has defended thousands of people accused of crimes such as theft, assault, sex crimes, and drug crimes.

Each case must be evaluated on its own merits. Criminal defense is a specialized area of law with unique procedures designed for the protection of the rights of the accused, many of which are constitutionally guaranteed. There are numerous issues in a criminal case beyond that of guilt or innocence, which is often secondary because the criminal defendant is not required to prove his/her innocence. In our adversary system of justice, the government bears the burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt.

It is the criminal defense attorney’s duty to make sure police have followed all proper procedures, met all Constitutional requirements, and to require them to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
Even if conviction occurs, it is the criminal defense attorney’s duty to mitigate or eliminate punishment to the best of his/her ability.

Therefore, a complete and thorough review of the circumstances is necessary. Mr. Corletta continues to stay abreast of developments in criminal law at both the State and Federal Levels, in order to continue to effectively represent his clients. In our rapidly changing post-9/l 1 world, the collateral consequences of criminal conduct are becoming more and more pronounced, reaching into areas involving business and professional licensing, gun ownership and use, registration, immigration, housing, and eligibility for certain government benefits, including student loans. It is important for the criminal defense attorney to have a working knowledge of these areas.

If you are charged with a crime, call our office for a consultation so your case can be thoroughly reviewed.
